| | Herds of New York’s chicest headed to the Meatpacking District on Friday night for Red Market Salon’s fashion week kick-off party to get coifed and crunk – before the week of runways turns them into non-sleeping, non-eating creatures of couture. Partygoers who made it up the four flights of stairs in their stilettos were rewarded with mixed vodka drinks, smooth tunes and lots of hair and beauty samples. Guests were also spoiled with blow-outs by Red Market stylists to get their manes looking fierce, makeup up tips and techniques from Becca Cosmetics to give them the perfect fashion week look and major discounts on collections by Ardista, Miguelina and Velvet Angels. |
But, for me, the find of the night was bumping into Jennifer Féin – designer of her eponymous ballet and lingerie inspired, re-worked vintage line, Féin. Each piece from her line is one-of-a-kind and pays homage to her roots in the theater; she was a ballet dancer for 14 years. “I use vintage finds then resuscitate them, give them new life. But there’s so much history in these fabrics so, I still like to maintain their historical integrity,” she explained. Not only are Féin’s pieces inspired by such history, they are also inspiring. I trotted home in my black suede booties excited to rummage through my closet to dig out an old pink wrap sweater and lace cami to create my own ballet/lingerie look, feeling old-world, pretty in pink.
